CANNABIS 101 – WHAT IS IT?
Cannabis is the common form of the taxonomic term Cannabinaceae, which is a family of about 170 different plants, including hemp and marijuana. The family is generally divided into three primary species, Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica and Cannabis Ruderalis. The sophisticated cannabis connoisseur will recognize the words “sativa” and “indica.” Since the recreational legalization of marijuana in some states, it has become en vogue to “know your strains.” Sativa strains (such as Blue Dream and Sour Diesel) are popular with those users that enjoy an “uplifting” effect. Indica strains (such as Purple Punch and Ice Cream Cake) provide a more relaxing effect.
One of the differences between hemp and marijuana is that hemp comes from only the cannabis sativa species. However, selective breeding has created some hemp strains with more dominant indica characteristics. SO…TO SUMMARIZE…ALL HEMP IS CANNABIS, BUT NOT ALL CANNABIS IS HEMP!
